I feel badly for my friends working at Merck…

…as PI lawyers around the country salivate over The New England Journal of Medicine’s correction to the Vioxx study in which they delete and soften references to the 18 months the drug showed no increased risk of cardiac events. In fact, the study (from Merck, I believe) included ‘statistical errors’ that hid the increased risk from a shorter duration of use. The correction does not offer a new number for increased risk (perhaps it’s obvious from the full study), but this can’t bode well for Merck’s defense.
